Mrs. van Pelt's pool table was first referred to in the strip from November 19, 1962, in which Linus van Pelt describes it to Charlie Brown, who at first assumes that it belongs to Linus' father. Linus explains to him that it is his mother's. Instead of green cloth, the table has tangerine colored cloth, which, according to the strip, appeals strongly to women.
All the mothers in the neighborhood go over to play pool with Mrs. van Pelt and all the children grow angry at Linus' mother for this. In the strip from November 23, 1962, Linus asks Violet why she does not have her ponytail, Violet replies angrily that her mother went over to play pool with Linus' mother, and did not have time to do her hair.
