Nickelodeon, or Nick for short, is a children's cable network that began broadcasting in 1979. Owned by the MTV Networks Kids & Family Group, a unit of the Viacom Media Networks division of Viacom (formerly controlled by Time Warner's predecessor, Warner Communications, and Warner-Amex Satellite Entertainment, a joint venture between Warners and American Express), Nickelodeon started out as a local channel on the Warner-Amex cable system, QUBE, in Columbus, Ohio. It is known for such programs as RugratsSpongeBob SquarePantsThe Fairly OddParents, iCarly, Drake & Josh, and The Loud House.

Nickelodeon held the broadcast rights to the animated Peanuts specials and shows (with the exceptions of A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, which remained with CBS and later ABC) from January 1998 to May 2004. On Nickelodeon, the cartoons were broadcast under the umbrella title You're on Nickelodeon, Charlie Brown. Hour-length specials, such as It's an Adventure, Charlie Brown and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, were shown split into two half-hour parts each.

The main Nickelodeon network ceased airing You're on Nickelodeon, Charlie Brown in the summer of 2000, but they reappeared on sister network NickToons in the 2003-04 television season, right before Nickelodeon's contract to run the specials expired altogether. To date, no other television network has yet obtained the broadcast rights to the Peanuts specials (aside from the above-mentioned holiday specials, as well as those made since 2000 and several pre-2000 specials).

From 2002 to 2005, Nickelodeon annually ran a series of shorts parodying classic Christmas specials every December. One particular short, titled A Chuckie Finster Christmas, Channukah, Kwaanza, Winter Solstice, was a parody of A Charlie Brown Christmas starring the main characters from Rugrats.

In 2010, the children's areas in several Cedar Fair theme parks (including Kings Island and Kings Dominion), got a massive re-theming from Nicktoon characters (such as SpongeBob and Dora the Explorer), to the Peanuts gang. This was due to the company's contract with Viacom expiring, and their already having a contract to use the Peanuts characters.

In October 2015, Nickelodeon ran an Orange Carpet promo advertising The Peanuts Movie, featuring Madisyn Shipman, who voiced Violet Gray in the film. New animation of the Peanuts characters was produced specifically for this promo.
